We spent last weekend in NYC. I went up Thursday for a Holiday Soiree, then my husband and daughter met me Friday around noon. Here is everything we did, and the outfits that I wore. These activities are all very kid friendly (my daughter is almost 9 and had so much fun).
Where we stayed: We stayed at The Standard Highline. The holiday party I attended was next door on the Highline, so I decided to stay next door so I was not wandering around NYC alone. We probably should have switched hotels and stayed closer to Time Square, since we ended up doing a lot of the touristy stuff there. We spent a good bit on Ubers, but we also could have used the subway. The hotel is nice, in a more quite area…but the rooms were a little small. We didn’t mind the room size so much, since we spent minimal time there.
Day 1:
- Lunch at Superiority Burger (vegetarian /vegan restaurant)
- Chelsea Market
- Walked the Highline
- Dinner and Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendiptiy3 (Times Square Location)
- Sienna had a birthday cake waffle and Cookies & Cream / Smore’s Frozen Hot Chocolate (they combined the flavors for her because she could not decide)
- I had the Vegan Black Bean Burger and a glass of wine 🙂
- Jonathan had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich
- Wicked on Broadway (Gershwin Theater). We booked our tickets about 3 weeks in advance and were able to get great seats!
Day 2:
- Summit One Vanderbilt. Booked tickets 3 days in advance when I started seeing Saturday time slots book up. We went at noon, and it took around 20 minutes to get in and get started with the experience. Really cool though, and Sienna enjoyed it.
- Bryant Park Holiday Market – Lots of Vendor and lots of yummy food options. It was packed out. If you go on the weekend, go early and go hungry. The lines were super long, so we didn’t stay to eat. They also have Ice Skating.
- Lunch at Tortazo Times Square (a Richard Bayless fast casual restuarant). We stopped in here because the Bryant Park Market was too busy. There was not wait and the food was really good.
- I has the tortilla soup and split the Potato Poblano Flautas with Jonathan.
- Sienna had a cheese quesadilla and Hot chocolate (they claim to have the best Hot Chocolate in NYC, but it was a little heavy for Sienna)
- We all shared the plantains
- Ice Skating in Central Park (Wollman Rink). I watched tickets throughout the day to make sure they did not sell out, then we just purchased them when we arrived there. That way we didn’t have to stick to a schedule. This rink has the little push things to help kids (and moms) with their balance while ice skating. Sienna definitely took advantage….they do cost and extra $25 to rent though.
- Dinner at Jupiter. I wanted to find a restaurant by Rockefeller Center so we could see all the Holiday decorations and Tree (which is not up yet, oops). Jupiter was on a list of “Best Rockefeller Restaurants”. It sits below street level by the Rockefeller Ice rink, so you can watch skating while dining. It sounds much more exciting than it really is. If you are in the area, the restaurant is decent enough, but not a must eat. You can make reservations on Resy, but they were not super busy.
- Sienna got tomato sauce spaghetti
- I got the rigatoni and split the squash with Jonathan. I had regrets about not getting the Burrata
- Dessert at Milk Bar. This was a must do for Sienna since she is a big fan of Bake Squad (Host of Show Started Milk Bar)
- Sienna got the Birthday Cake Milk Shake, Birthday Cake Truffle, and a Brownie to go (the brownie was so ridiculously good)
- I got a compost cookie to go
- Jonathan got an Ice Cream with Cereal on Top (maybe it was called Cereal Milk???)
Day 3:
- Union Square Holiday Market. Way less busy than Bryant Park, but we also went earlier in the day on a Sunday. This market is smaller, but has a lot of the same vendors as the Bryant Park Market.
- Sienna got a Smore’s Crepe
- Jonathan and I shared edamame dumplings
- I got a Ube Butter Mochi Square from Boiis Co. to go. I ate the next day and am obsessed. I’m so tempted to order a box!
- Grabbed a slice of Pizza from Joes Pizza
- Museum of Ice Cream. Go hungry! There is so much ice cream, and you can go back and get doubles of anything (or triples). I also recommend not going right before heading to the airport, unless you like feeling like crap while flying 🙂
- Headed to airport to fly home
